End of Estivation?

time_lord Sep 22, 2009 04:17 PM

Anyone know what conditions will bring Russians out of estivation?

My make and female began to estivate about 6 weeks ago, and only recently have I seen just the female out roaming about. I have plenty of weeds in their enclosure, plus I have started to add carrots just in case.

Whenever I check on them, the female seems a bit woozy, and the male is just completely out. The temps are still in the 80's~90'S by day, and down to the low 60's at night. I would have though that they would have snapped out of this by now?

The enclosure has adequate shade and exposure, and also several hides and is mostly arid.

Time Lord, I don't know, but mine are still down. I found a hatchling in the pen last week, but other than that, I have not seem my A.horsefieldi since July. It is still warm down here in the desert, over 100f daily, and in the mid-70's or warmer at night. Remember, some wild populations are said to be active only about 3 months of Spring each year, with little or no food available after early summer. Buena suerte, Vic
