Multipal gentics question

coolcritter Sep 22, 2009 06:15 PM

Hi Folks.
I have a kahl male hypo that is 100% het for albino and 50% anery.
A female 100% het albino.
I also have a male 100% het albino
2 years ago I bred the 2 hets and got 3 albinos and 14 normal looking 66% hets.
This year I bred the hypo to the female and got 25 babies.
What should I get out of the litter of 25 babies ?
I will post what I got out of the clutch after I hear any responces.
I would like a sunglow albino to add to my collection what should I get male or female ?
or should I just get a alibno and breed with what I have to produce the sunglow ?
I know nothing about the genetics.

Thanks for any responces.

What should I get out of the litter of 25 babies ?

Hypo het albino X het albino -->
1/8 (~3 babies) hypo albino (sunglow)
3/8 (~9 babies) hypo 66% probability het albino
1/8 (~3 babies) albino
3/8 (~9 babies) normal looking, 66% probability het albino

That actually adds up to only 24 babies. Actual results may or may not match these expectations.

or should I just get a albino and breed with what I have to produce the sunglow ?

Either of these works. Flipping a coin will give you as good advice as I could give. Or, if you didn't get any baby sunglows from this year's mating, you can just repeat the mating next year and hope for better luck.

Thanks Paul,
I did end up with
2 Albinos
12 hypo 66%
11 normal looking 66%

I picked up a Coral Albino female, If I breed her to the hypo should I possibly get
25% sunglow
25% albino
25% hypo hets ( and would these be concidered double hets ? )
25% hets

Thanks again,
Jim

25% sunglow

25% hypo hets ( and would these be concidered double hets ? )
25% hets
(mark these het albinos)

That is the expectation. As you found out in this year's mating, the luck of the draw sometimes does not always match the expectation.

The hypo het albinos are what they call double het sunglows.

The babies you have marked "hets" are het albinos.

Good luck.

Thanks Paul,
The hypo het male and het female, the babies I have now would the hypo babies be considered hypo 66% het albino ( possible het sunglow ) ?
What about the 2 Albinos I have, would they be sunglow hets or anythng ?

Thanks again, Jim

From your hypo het albino X het albino mating.

All the hypo babies would be hypos with a 66% probability of being het albino, too.

A sunglow has two pairs of genes that are of interest -- a pair of albino genes and a hypo mutant gene paired with a normal gene. Your albino babies have a pair of albino genes and a pair of normal genes. They are simply albinos. They are not any type of sunglow het.
