Pics of my new 'kids' and question

SlytherLyn Sep 22, 2009 08:24 PM

I received 3 new Corns today (Thank you Amanda!). A Blizzard male proven het Bloodred and poss het Anery & Lav, a Fire female het Anery, and an Anery Lav female. My question is in regards to Snow Blooreds. I plan to pair my new Blizzard male with the Fire het Anery. If he proves out het Anery I could get Snow Bloodreds. I also have another pair that I will be breeding that could produce Snow Blooreds (Romeo and Juliet in my sig line) I know what an Anery Bloodred (Granite) looks like as I have one, and I know what an Amel Bloodred (Fire) looks like as I have two. But I do not know what a Snow Bloodred looks like, or if it has a special "name". I have googled it multiple ways but can't find a picture. If someone has a picture, or a link to a site that has a picture, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Here are pics of my new kids on their way from their shipping box to their new enclosures.

Thanks, I'll check out that site. The Blizzard male is proven het Bloodred and poss het Anery & Lav. The Albino Bloodred female isn't proven yet but was bought at 100% het Anery. If the Blizzard does turn out to be het Anery, that's how I could get Bloodred Snows from them. Sorry if my post was confusing on what was what. My other pair are both het Amel, Anery, Bloodred, and Charcoal. So that was the other way I might get them.

I've always had a problem with the term "het bloodred." Bloodred is two traits - diffused sided and high red coloration (which in theory makes for a solid red-looking snake). Since there are two traits at play a normal snake can be "double het" but not het.

Except the high red coloration is not a simple recessive genetic trait. It might be considered co-dominant, but it's not something a snake can be het for.

Therefore, there's no such thing as "het for bloodred" (at least IMHO).

All-to-often I see "buzz words" (like in the previous post where "strawberry" and "sunglow" were used to describe what looks like an ordinary striped amel) used incorrectly in order to increase the appeal of a snake.

That may not have answered your question, but until we start using correct terminology for morphs, we'll never be able to have accurate discussions about them.

I got into corns back when the only term for them was Bloodred and old habits are hard to change. Meant no disrespect to the people who now call them Diffused.
