Eastern Hognose collection (DUW)

Wyvern Sep 23, 2009 09:10 PM

Some photos of my little Eastern collection. I am now up to 5 captive bred individuals (just got 3 new ones this past weekend).

This is my 2004 CB girl. She was a normal looking baby and ended up being all black (very faint traces of pattern left..only visible when she's all puffed up). She is just under 3 feet in length. While taking the pics she was putting on a show of mouth gaping, but I wasn't fast enough to focus and get shots of that before she would stop.

This is my 2006 boy. He was a high-red hatchling and has been gradually changing to a rose-gray color. Whether he stays as is or continues to change who knows. Like the female he was doing a show of mouth gaping (too fast to take pics of) though he also threw in a little extra with striking at the camera lens.

These are my newest 2009 additions.

And this is a set of photos of a wild caught eastern found on a farm on the Eastern Shore this summer. Most likely it was a female. She was around 2.5 feet in length. We photographed her and let her go back in the garden rather than keep her. Hopefully one day we'll find babies to try and raise up.

Nice to see good looking pics of Easterns. Crazy how they turn black; will you be reproducing them?

I plan on breeding yes. The male was being stupid this year. Acting like a male looking for a female, but when put with a female, would run and hide in terror LOL. He may just not like this female or her huge size intimidates so another year of growth for him may fix things.. who knows. It was one reason I picked up the new male and 2 girls so I can eventually play mix-n-match. One of the new females took a pinky mouse on the first feeding attempt I've done with them. The breeder I got them from had only been feeding little toads and hadn't begun converting them to pinks yet so I hadn't expected results this quick.
