First Time Breeder- A Few Questions............

Gekko May 25, 2003 11:04 AM

What is the minimum weight/age a female should be to safely breed?

I was also wondering what the best ways to introduce a male to a female are, and how long it will take for them to mate.

How long after mating does the female usually lay her eggs?

And also, will many of the eggs be infertile considering it will be her first time laying?

Sorry for all the questions, but any help would be appreciated greatly.

Thanks.

Q. What is the minimum weight/age a female should be to safely breed?

A. When I breed my females I make sure they are between 50 and 60 grams and that they are also keeping/holding that weight. Soem people breed their at 40 grams, but I would definelty wait.

Q. I was also wondering what the best ways to introduce a male to a female are, and how long it will take for them to mate.

A. I just put my females in with the male and he does the job for me. He's a great breeder and very romantic with the ladies. he he he The whoel mating process goes really quick, maybe like 30 seconds or so.

Q. How long after mating does the female usually lay her eggs?

A. She can lay her eggs anywhere from 10 days up until 30 days or so. I have seen my females lay at all different days. One of them went for a month, and the other laid on her 19th day.

Q. And also, will many of the eggs be infertile considering it will be her first time laying?

A. If its a first season, first time ever breeding, her first egg(s) could be infertile, and they may not be. In my expeirence one of my females laid one egg and it went bad. You'll know in a week, cause it will smell, rot, grow mold, just pitch it cuz it will be infertile. However. My carrot tail who is also her first season has laid 14 eggs for me, and her very first clutch never went bad. I held onto those eggs, and one day out popped a cute little gecko. If those eggs dont go bad hang onto them just in case, you just may get a little gecko hatch out of it...I did.

Sorry for all the questions, but any help would be appreciated greatly.

Dont worry about too many questions, we're here to help in any way we can.
