Pics of My South Carolina Northern Pine

orchidspider Sep 24, 2009 04:53 PM

After posting the pics of my friend and his NC wild Northern Pine 2 days ago, one of you asked for pics of my pines. My male is still eating fuzzies and I only got him this Feb at the Charlotte NC show, but a friend gave me this awesome captive bred South Carolina female a year ago, as a yearling and she is growing into a stunning monstahhh. She seemed to think it rather rude of me to take her out of her cage for her photo shoot and hissed and squirmed a bit, but she settled right down for these pics. She eats 2 med rats per feeding and is 4 feet.

I noticed you mentioned acquiring your male northern pine in NC. You also have it listed as it's locale as NC. I might have all this mixed as I have not kept up with local regs for where pines reside. Maybe you can help me here. What are the NC regs concerning Northern Pines in general as well as specifics on NC locale?

I was wondering the same thing....spider guy lives in NC and has NC N. Pines. I believe they are illegal to keep in NC whether they are from NC or anywhere else such as NJ. They are listed as a species of special concern. So I would be carefule about living in NC and telling everyone about your NC Pines unless of course you have a permit to keep them which are difficult to obtain...usually only reserved for educational institutions etc. I live in NC and used to breed NC Pines but once the regs came in I got rid of mine even though mine were grandfathered in and as an educator I could have kept them.

This is consistent with my experience. I wanted to purchase a pair of NJ Pines from a breeder in MD back in 2004. I called NCWRC to check on status and permits. I was told that I could not own N. Pines in NC without a special permit. I was given the option to apply for the permit, but also told that I would likely be declined because I was not affiliated with an educational institution at that time. It is not ok to collect or own N. Pines in NC.

Anyone know a good breeder of locality S. Pines?

Thanks,
Michael

I know they are of special concern, but I got my male at last years herp show here in Charlotte, and he was captive bred for sure, as was my female... but you all are right, I should be more low key... but darn it I love 'em
