Late bloomers!

Thanks again -- especially to Dave Niles, Jeff Schofield, and JY -- for their advice on how to manage moldy, but viable eggs a few months back. This one crawled out of that clutch just last night, and there's at least one (maybe two!) that should be on the way right behind it.

And no, these images were not doctored in any way. I'm on cloud nine.

Thanks, Doug! This was actually among the eggs I managed to separate from the mold growth early on, so yes, it incubated and hatched essentially unscathed. I was surprised and excited to get a little aberrant band behind the head in addition to the hypo and apricot traits. One of the next two eggs was hit pretty hard with both mold and carrion flies. I treated it heavily with topical miconazole powder so it'll be REALLY interesting to see what kind of aberrant surprises that one throws, if it hatches at all.

Yes, it will be interesting to see.

A while back, I posted an egg that was VERY similar, and it went on to hatch a perfectly healthy normal hatchling.

This thing was pretty screwed up with a huge hard lump on one end that became pretty heavily molded as well VERY early on for some reason, all the others were perfect looking. I tried to keep it at bay with a anti-fungus product as well. It sure looked horrible, but towards the the time they were due to hatch, it felt nice and firm, and SMELLED perfectly good still, so I figured it had a very good chance of hatching nice and healthy too. I was thinking it might also be very aberrant as well if it hatched, but not the case.

best regards, ~Doug

Brad,

Congratulations. Good job sticking with them. The one you pictured is a knockout! Post more pics when they all crawl out if you can.

Haha, I know, right? It'd be a "purple" pueblan, not a hondo, but wouldn't THAT be cool! I took that picture within hours of the hatchling crawling out of the egg so I think it was probably still just a little "soft" -- the color should darken up a little in a few sheds. Mom and dad are also both hypo and apricot, and their colors have stayed nice and muted into adulthood. Rather than staying purple though, those otherwise jet black bands become a nice chocolatey color. The orange (apricot) bands become a soft lemon yellow hue. Geez, I've made myself hungry... Dad is pictured below. Both parents were produced in '06 by Jerry Bedsole.

Maybe its time for HONDOs to get their own forum? Smiling...

It seems #2 crawled out this evening -- I wasn't even expecting it as it never dimpled at all. So sadly I didn't get the same kind of photo series, but just snapped these as I separated it out. You can see the "moldy" egg in the first (overexposed) photo; pretty nasty looking, but not stinky, so... I guess we'll see!
