How do you know if your temps are right? I have a zoo-med thermometer on the side of the cage, but it's not really that close to where the UTH is really setting the temp, is it?
I have a thermostat attached to the UTH but it has a constantly green light, indicating it never really gets to the temp its shooting for (80-90, depending on day/night). I'm afraid our little leo is cold.

The best way to get the right temp is to get a digital thermometer. You can find a $10-$12 one, maybe cheaper, at Walmart. Put the probe on top of the UTH, thats with the substrate on it as well. Take the temp. If it reads 88-90 then you're fine, if it doesn't you might have to bump the heat up just a little bit.

Also when you lay your hand over the UTH does it feel warm to the touch? Or is it warmish, but feels like it could be a bit warmer?

It is definitely warm... but is it 90 degrees? I don't know. The gun will tell me I guess.
