savannah monitor with lump

argos_mom Sep 25, 2009 05:13 PM

i have a savannah monitor about a foot long. it has a bulge on the inside of its cloaca. i though at first that it was male but on closer inspection the it is only a bulge on one side and the rim of the cloaca and on the insisde is a red color. i know when it poops on me the hole extends and i didnt see anything that looks like a hemipene so i was wondering if maybe it pooped and got something stuck in there or what. i tried soaking it and when i gently pushed on the bulge a milky almost yellow fluid came out. please dont flame me for my little knowledge. i did research before i got it but nothing i read told me about the genital area

It's possible that when it defecated (aka crapped) that it everted it's hemipenis or clitoris and the moist tissue got dirt or mulch on it and retracted this foreign matter into the sheath the organs live in. That would get irritated and create some crud. I would do a lukewarm shallow bath and see if when it craps (warm water usually stimulates) there is something going on with the organ down there. If you can't get anywhere .... vet time.
