Heartbroken and sick

pgwdragons Sep 26, 2009 12:45 AM

I came home tonight to a horrible situation. The storms in my area caused the power to mess up, causing the heat to kick in and the air to go off. I lost several, literally 17 male/female mix of dragons, that I hold dearly to me, and I have worked as hard as I can for. Im so upset, I feel like Im responsible, and that its all my fault. I should have been home faster, but the storms were trouble...

I feel terrible.

Oh my gosh...I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot begin to imagine how you must feel. You cant blame yourself.....there was no way you could have known about the power. Hang in there.

I'm SO SORRY Eric...it certainly wasn't your fault,a terrible freak accident that no one could foresee the outcome of.You took the best care gave them a good life. Not much anyone can say...time heals.Do you have any left?

Thank you guys so much for your kind words.
It was very hard, and it is something that just hurts. The male I was closest to was one of the ones to fall with it.

And to angie, I have several females left.. Not really many that are of size to breed, or in the condition to.
and now.. I literally only have 3 males left. One that is almost reaching maturity.. and one that was a rescue that I got the other day.. so I have no clue how he would do...(he looks fine, but i just dont know much yet about him).. and then a young male that hasnt bred yet either... them I have a few very small dragons.. that I dont know their sex yet.
So not only does this hurt me mentally, and emotionally... but it has completely knocked everything that I have worked for in the past 2 years.. completely down the toilet, so Now Ive got to try to find males, that are healthy and can fit back into my program ugh, this is just stressful!!

Once again though, thank you guys for your words

I am sorry to hear about your loss as well. I live in Vegas, and fear power failures in July and August.

What are you looking for to rebuild your line?

Leatherbacks
Translucents
Hypos.. w/ color.. maybe tigers

I'm very sorry for your loss. I am also very curious as to what happened. How hot was it inside your house? How hot were their enclosures? I figure the heat couldn't stay on because the room would be above the max. temp. on a heat thermostat.

pgwdragons Sep 27, 2009 10:16 AM

I have them all in a fully insulated (like a house) building that is seperate from my house.. and basically what happened is there must have been several "flickers" over several times.. and basically shut my AC down, and fried my therms that are connected to the cages, so the ac was down, and the terms were down also, but the lights stayed on, and one of the systems I have for my males is the Zoomed Euro system, which is a stacking system.. and since the heat rises, it basically just got hotter from the bottom up.. anything from the second level up wound up being killed. Thats the best that i can figure, because of my therms being ruined and the AC being off when I got there... the room temp was 110.. ambient.. so under the lights.. it had to be like 170 or more.
