These are a tough morph to find in the wild. They can be more common at some locales, but still make up the minority of the population. These are always a special find. Here's a wild caught adult.

A captive produced juvenile.

I collected a gravid normal banded female which produced 7 eggs. This was the only one out of the 7 that came out hyper.

Some have dark bellies and others don't for some reason.

These two females were both collected as young adults and produced good clutches for this year. Both are from the 'Oil Fields' and show a low expression of the hyper trait, yet produced very dark offspring.

Hello all,

last season I hatched 2 unusual calkings from a clutch of normal ones. Both have black belly and overall darker color, both more black and also a darker background color
I hope the link to the photo works.
Parents and sibs are normal.
Parents are siblings, so my guess is, this morph is simple recessive in this case at least.
Any input on them is wellcome, thanks,
David

Yes the hypermelanistic gene (Mendotas, Davis, Baja etc..) are a simple recessive gene. And I know of hundreds of hets are out there as I have wholesaled a bunch of them in the last 6 years or so.

So people should be popping out hypermelanistics from normal looking cal kings. I've also wholesaled a lot of double hets of various recessive genes in the past.

Thank you!
It was a surprise for me.
I got both grandparents like ten years ago, one from the USA, the other from Sweden!
I live in Uruguay, and the few calkings available are usually mine )
