Any good monitor books?.........More....

sdi Sep 27, 2009 11:04 AM

I am looking for a good monitor book. Something along the lines of "The More Complete Condro" or "The Complete Boa Constrictor". I have a fair amount of hands on experience but am looking for something interesting and infolrmative to read even if it is not as extensive as the two books I mentioned.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I would recomend '' Monitor Lizards Natural History,Captive Care and Breeding'' By Bernd Eidenmueller. Very good color pics of most of the Aussie monitors particularly the dwarfs. Most people dont know it but Bernd has many of the first breedings of many monitor species and mostly aussie dwarfs. Back in the early 90s there were the first Americans that went to vistit him and replicate his success on a larger scale for commercial purpose here in the USA. This includes any of the self proclaimed gurus.
Nice book for only 50 bucks and available at Las Vegas Exotics.

Thanks Bob. I am working on aquiring mcraei and prasinus right now. However a friend of mine sent me some photos of his pilbaras and I think they will be next on my list! That is a great looking little guy you posted as well. I really like the kimberly's and pilbaras so this book should be helpful in preparing me prior to making any purchases. Thanks again for taking the time to post!

"Giant Lizards: The Definitive Guide to the Natural History, Care, and Breeding of Monitors, Iguanas, Tegus, and Other Large Lizards" by Ph.D. Robert George Sprackland

"Monitor Lizards: Natural History, Biology & Husbandry" (Dec 1998) by Daniel Bennett, Thomas Wilms, and Breck Batholomew

Has anyone out there reviewed either of these? Thanks in advance!

Varanoid lizards of the world by Pianka & King. I enjoy this book very much. Jeff Lemm provides a fair amount of photos and field work in here. Many on animals in Indonesia and Australia.

Great - I will see if I can track it down. Right now I am working with mcraei and prasinus so maybe there will be some good info in there. Thanks for the post!
