ah yes, nothing beats a couple nice looking snakes "knockin' boots"..LOL!

You might want to leave a tiny little ash tray in there for them afterwards!

These are beautiful. Could you recommend a caresheet on 'em?

Thanks!

RandyWhittington Sep 29, 2009 01:28 PM

I don't know of anyone with a care sheet for them but their care requirements are about average with most colubrids. They are a hardy species.

the most likely to try and rip your face off at my place. PSYCO MAMA! This girl is 10 years old this year and has really calmed down over the years. NOT! You can see that little smirk on her face which means "heads up sucker".

How big is she?

RandyWhittington Sep 29, 2009 01:45 PM

I'm not exactly sure but my best guess is 7 to 7.5 ft. She doesen't go along with anything that includes being still or calm when out of the cage so getting an accurate measurement is about impossible. This was her significant other this past breeding season. He weighs about a 1/4 of what she does.

Wow, Randy. Those do keep getting better with age. I've got a pair of intermountain ratsnakes coming from KJ thurs. Hope to get some pics up soon after they arrive. After that I think I'm going to slow down a bit and let everything I've gotten in the last two years mature. This is my Brazos Island meahllmorum pair.

Jimmy I really like the albino emoryi and the yellow rat shot is great. That cream color background with the contrast of that yellow head and red eyes. Nice!

I'm wondering the same thing. Give us some background!

draybar Sep 30, 2009 06:54 PM

The yellow rat
back in '04, a friend in Florida that does animal rescue and rehab had a few everglade hatchings and this little yellow rat hatchling. None were feeding and two of the everglades were kinked pretty bad.
Well, one of the everglades died (a kinked one) but I got the other two everglades and the yellow rat eating...after about a month of working with them.
early on a gave the remaining kinked everglades to a friend. As it was growing the kinks became much less noticeable.
I ended up keeping the eveglades and the yellow for a couple of years and then gave them, traded them or sold them to a friend of mine (can't remember which...lol)
At the time I didn't have mates to go with either and didn't really have room to start working with everglades and yellow rats.
I'm pretty sure they have since been sold and are out there somewhere.
so basically I can't really give you any background at all...lol

That's pretty cool Jimmy!,...nice Everglades too!

I remember back around 1995 seeing some Yellow Rats at the Orlando Expo that were very similar to that one, only their heads had even less yellow pigment(just a tad on the tip of their snout), and the entire bodies were solid grey except for their four dark stripes on the adults. I recall the guys calling them "anerythristic" yellow rats, and always knew this wasn't the case, and were actually hypoxanthic animals instead.

What's funny is....I wonder why the heck you don't see more of them in today's hobby??

BTW, they were VERY expensive back then too at $250 bucks for HETS! I think...geesh! maybe THAT'S the reason why we don't see many around now!..LOL!

In any case, I always thought those guys were awesome looking, but at the time, that was just WAY too much "coin" to shell out on a het yellow rat.

I wonder what the heck ever happened to that line??, they were way cool!

DMong Sep 30, 2009 10:28 PM

Jimmy, I sure hope you plan on making some more of those, those are very interesting. Do you know if the trait on that individual is genetically inherant, or haven't you bred it to anything as of yet??

thanks, ~Doug
