Albino W. Hog stopped eatting

Slacker6848 Sep 28, 2009 10:33 PM

Hey, our albino male western hognose stoped eatting about 2 months ago, and turned to be quite fiesty. Before he stopped eating he was very docile and had a wicked agressive feeding responce on unscented fuzzies. Nothing has changed at all in his cage, we've tried unscented and salmon scented fuzzies and pinkies which is what he use to love before he started eatting unscented. Does anyone have any sugesting or thoughts on why he turned like this? and how get get him to start eatting again. he's lose a bit of weight. our female is doing great tho and getting nice and big

Thanks
Zack

Mature male Westerns often go on periods of fasting which can last several months. Sometimes this is caused by the male going into breeding mode. If he's constantly cruising his housing, it could be he's looking for a female.

If his diet is of regularly unscented mice, it's best not to offer him anything scented as this can throw him off of what he normally eats. Snakes can go for long periods of time without eating regardless whether it's behavioral or environmental.

You say he's lost weight, but how much are we talking? If you don't have a digital scale, they are a very handy and necessary tool in helping to monitor your animals weight amongst other uses.

If his environmental temperature has changed or fluctuated recently, this can also cause them to go into hibernation/brumation mode which causes them to fast as well.

Any other information you can offer might be helpful.
