What the heck is this???

Pillsbarry Sep 30, 2009 02:11 AM

I've got a 2 year old male Leopard Rat Snake that I've had for about 2-3 months now. For about 2 weeks he's been occasionally spasticly darting around the enclosure twisting his body really weird and today I found this.
I'm assuming some type of internal parasite or tapeworm? I'm pretty sure he pooped this out and didn't regurgitate it (although I didn't see it happen). Can anyone help me out I've never had anything like this happen before. There are no Reptile Vets in my area. He's been on f/t fuzzies and hoppers. I assume that being frozen that potential parasites would be dead (I know bacteria is another story). What should I do and how would he have gotten sick in the first place?
Thanks for your help, Steve

If yoy saved the scat, take it to a vet and let the pros tell you what it is and what needs to be done. You can't tell from a photo.

It looks gross. I showed my husband, Archie, who is amazing with snakes and he said that you should take the snake & whatever that is that you took a picture of to a vet if at all possible.
