OT - Moving is such a drag...

jscrick Sep 30, 2009 04:08 PM

Moving is such a drag, but coming across old gems like this one make it a bit more enjoyable.

My new place isn't much, but it is like being out on a snake hunt 24/7. I love it.

Great pic John, Ross Allen was one of my hero's, later an employer, and later on a good friend of mine. I visited him in the hospital a week or so before he died. Ross was always an inspiration of mine early on and he was a great guy. He always took time out to talk to a young admirer about herps and answer a lot of, for him, stupid questions from a young kid. That young kid was me.....

He was great to me when I met him. Treated this dumb kid as if on par. What a wonderful man and an inspiration.

For those that don't know, he doubled for Johnny Weissmuller in the old Tarzan movies, when it came time to fight the Crocodiles. He was a pretty good taxidermist too, I believe.

He was a world class swimmer as the famous Weismuller was. Also he was a Boy Scout Leader and made many expeditions to foreign lands in search of adventure and herps. He and Wilifred T. Neil PHD. wrote hundreds of scientific papers on herps as well. The first publication dedicated to the captive maintenance of herps was written by him titled KEEP THEM ALIVE. I believe it's extremely important to remember the past history of Herpetoculture and Ross Allen was an early pioneer and we all should remember him and his legacy....
