some brooks youngsters......

DMong Oct 01, 2009 08:26 PM

Well,..it turns out the nice yellow brooks adults I have gave me some very nice surprises on September 1st. These two adults I have started out looking almost identical to several of their very red offspring that were produced here.

These parents I have actually did originate from southern Dade County stock that has been line-bred for exhibiting very high amounts of red to their juvenile color scheme. This gradually changes with age into their rich hues of yellow, but still tends to maintains a sort of peachy/orange coloration on their sides, and even a little sometimes in their dorsal cross-bars as well into adulthood.

When their lineage was actually traced, it turns out that they are indeed a composite of Bill Schmeidecke's old bloodlines, as well as a couple other well known individual's stock who have been collecting in the wilds of Florida for some time now.

It is true that many times, a sib to sib breeding can produce some really surprising results, where otherwise these genetic combinations would never happen at all, and can often "magnify" certain traits, or create all sorts of weird separate traits too.

Well, this clutch is definitely interesting to say the least, and far from what would normally be expected by just looking at the parents.

Here are the parents, although the male is a much more brighter yellow than he shows in this pic. He is a big boy too, especially for an '07. He is 58" long, and 1050 grams(over 2.2 pounds).

here are the kids.

here is one with ZERO red, and a beige/green cast

and HERE is the most surprising "FREAKAZOID" of the clutch!

Doug,

Those are the epitomy of the most gorgeous Fl. kings I have seen!!! ( besides my hypo! )

Your babies and adults completely show the mind boggling difference between the young and the old. The color on each example is startling, and I bet your adults were fun to watch grow up!

Great pics of amazing snakes, my friend!! Keep the pics coming!!

Thank you for those kind remarks!,..I'm glad you also appreciate the uniqueness that all these individuals are displaying. This will be a very interesting future project for sure.

As if the parents arent good enough looking by themselves, those babies are already outstanding!!!!! They are all amazing, but that last one....... Man - O - man! What is going on there!?

DMong Oct 01, 2009 10:03 PM

Thanks, man!,......and YES, that's a VERY good question. One that still has me scratching my head. The last one seems to have the very distictive "skellator" looking head that hypo's typically display, but the weird blotches are basically normal colored. So I'm thinking it is actually probably a very BIZARRE super wide cross-barred individual that is insanely red as well..LOL!

That one defies all logic!

thanks again!

Be fun to see if it's reproducable. The glories of line breeding :D It'd be 10000% awesome to see an adult that had that coloring/pattern.

DMong Oct 01, 2009 10:59 PM

Man!,...you got THAT right!

I'm pretty much expecting that one to become a neon yellow banana when it becomes an adult..LOL!

DMong Oct 01, 2009 10:07 PM

Yeah man,...that thing is just INSANE!..LOL!

I think that one will have me going....huhhh? for a long time to come..LOL!

Great post, Doug. Showing the parents and clutch. Only thing better would be to see the parents pics as hatchlings too, but I imagine they looked a lot like the new ones. Well, except that last one! Very cool wide band thing going on there. That fifth one down with the very speckled sides might be my favorite, I bet that one really turns out sweeet. All are exceptional snakes.

Here’s what I thought of when I saw that head pattern, the “skeletor” thing. Have you ever seen this cartoon? I just couldn’t see calling that one “Grim”. Most wouldn’t get it!

DMong Oct 01, 2009 10:48 PM

Thanks buddy!,....

HAHAHA!!,.that is funny as all heck!, that "Grim"
dude is hilarious man!..LOL!. I just LOVE the well-mannered way he talks on the cartoon!..LOL!

Anyway, yes, the parents were exact mirror images of some of the hatchlings,....and I mean exactly!. My adult male looked identical to the #1 pic, and the adult female looked identical to the #6 hatchling pic when they were neonates.

And yeah, the one you mentioned should turn out super nice for sure!

later bro!, ~Doug

NICE GOINI....!!!!

LMAO, just kidding Mongster. Those are sweet Floridas. Looking forward to a future "time line" as they progress in age. And that last one and the really light one.....wtf? It's like a Caucasian woman birthing a spanish and black set of twins. Whoah!

Yeah, isn't that just CRAZY???, the differences are just insane, and go beyond all normal logic!

The sib to sib "thing" produced some bizarre results for sure!

Glad you like them buddy!

I assume you're keeping the wide banded one! Keep us posted on that one.

DMong Oct 02, 2009 10:00 AM

Thanks Nick!,.......

Yes, not only am I keeping that one, but the others too. There is some odd stuff going on with these, and it would be foolish on my part to let them go before seeing what they end up looking like as adults, not to mention having them to "prove" any of this stuff out later on.

thanks again buddy!

Sounds like a fun project.

I should be breeding my Hillsborough County Sulfur line for the first time this coming season. That line is know to produce all sorts of crazy patterns... I'm hoping to get something real wide-banded like you've got there.

Yeah, Nick, this will certainly be very interesting to see what happens.

That "sulfur" you have in Hubbs' book is just insane!. Good luck with those breeding for you man!

I would be VERY proud of those "Osceola-Suwanee's" you have too, those are freakin' phenomenal as well!. Hubbs and I were all "goo-goo" over those, and thought those were simply unrivaled!

take care, ~Doug

Excellent. Nice pair and offspring.

What's your favorite cigar brand?

DMong Oct 02, 2009 10:10 AM

Thanks Rich!,...

I'm not a real cigar aficionado, but these look like pretty high quality "stogies" for those special occasions..LOL!

Nah, they probably think since you are not too familiar with cigars, you probably got counterfeits anyway.

Very Impressive Doug!

Love the diversity!

DMong Oct 03, 2009 11:18 AM

Thanks a bunch Zenny!

I know guys like you can really appreciate the wide range of diversity in that clutch.

Not only does that "one-of-a-kind" weirdo express insane, wide amounts of red, he also has a totally patternless yellow belly!....ZERO dark pigment except for the subcaudals past his vent.

thanks again!, ~Doug

Without a doubt that snake is pretty killer!

I looks almost like a hypo! i mean look at it's head pattern in comparison to it's other siblings... then you say it's belly pattern is patternless as well!... totally killer!

Here's my "weirdo" for 2009...Hypo (het lavender) Female... yes i'm sure it's a hypo... it's from Hypo X "Hybino" and looks just like it's hypo mother did as a hatchling!

>> "I looks almost like a hypo! i mean look at it's head pattern in comparison to it's other siblings"

LOL!,..tell me about it!,...that's what I was thinking too at first, yes, I agree, he has the "skellator" looking head that is very typical of hypos, yet his backgroud(now blotches instead. are basically normal coloration, and then in addition to that, he has a patternless belly EXCEPT for the subcaudals past the vent which are normally dark pigment.

He is just WHACKO! is all there is to it..LOL!

Yes, his phenotype makes no logical sense at all......which is why he is absolutely KILLER!..LOL!

Great lookin' hypo's you posted there Zenny!, those really ROCK! I've seen some of those bright red Flames you are sporting, and those are awesome as well!

later man!, ~Doug
