Large Easterns

joecop Oct 01, 2009 09:30 PM

This is a Pender County NC male I got from Mr. Mark Hardie this year. This snakes stud is a WC male that is the largest eastern chain I have ever seen. He is honestly scaring six feet if not there already and a looker at that. Anybody out there got any larger than that?

Yes it does!! If you saw how he kept them it would impress you too. Wish I had that set-up he has.

That is an EXCEPTIONAL looking Eastern for sure!

Way to score!

Beautiful eastern Joe. I have a va. beach pair that have a simular look as yours, but no where near as large.
On a side note, I liked orchidspiders black kings (nigra) so much, I have one on order from Mark H. as well. Thanks orchid for the information. Steve

Thanks guys. I like those black kings as well and just told Mark yesterday that I might be coming up to buy a pair! The great thing about most of his snakes is that they are locale specific for sure. Some don't care much about that but I kind of like the locale stuff.

People who produce good animals and care about what they do should get our business!!!! And Mark is one of those people... he told me he has 5 diff locals of easterns

Five different locales? Curious to know what five he is working with.

On a side note, I once saw two WC easterns that were easily over 6' and had a girth that would hide a jumbo rat. Their heads were as wide as a common boa constrictor's. They were caught by some commercial collector that would not state their location and sold them to a dealer in Florida. I heard they would not eat anything but snakes. The collector said later that the area he has come across these jumbos had a heavy population of large diamondbacks and canebrakes. I have been trying to locate people that have heard of these or may have even came across some in their past.

I agree,...locale stuff ROCKS!

Most of the time, if given the choice between locale and generic lines I would choose the locality stock nine out of ten times, depending on the circumstances.

If you have any photos of those jumbos I would love to see them!! Easterns have been one of my favorites since I was a little kid. Love them.

Does anyone have Mark Hardie's contact info that they can give me? Thanks.

>>... He is honestly scaring six feet if not there already and a looker at that.

For sure he's a beauty. What a classic pattern, and what bright white. I had one like that (this was almost 50 years ago) from a Norfolk, VA pet store, though i don't know for sure that it was collected there.

No offense meant, but from the pictures of him in your hand I never would have pegged him as exceptionally large, I'd have guessed more like a four footer. We REALLY need to have someone find that widget that gives you a very accurate measure of a snake's length, from a photo of the snake with an object of known length, like a ruler or dollar bill. At least that's how i recall it works. I thought i had it but can't find it. Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

(I'm not suggesting your snake's NOT pushing 6'; I'm suggesting we need to use that tool more often so lengths will be documented. I think that makes it much more interesting.)

Maybe this is it:

though i downloaded it and didn't get an application. I'm on a mac, so maybe it's only for PCs. Somebody wanna try it and give a report here?

The one in my hand is a baby and only 25" long. His daddy is the big boy and resides at Mark Hardie's house.

Patton Oct 02, 2009 11:40 PM

The one he's holding in the photo is an '08 offpsring of Mark's 6'er. Just a heads up!

Thanks guys. I am guilty of very sloppy reading. Sorry (and yeah, a little embarrassed). I'd still like to see everyone make wider use of an appropriate widget that clearly defines the lengths of large animals they show.

Here's a few photos of the male Virginia Beach Eastern that sired
the pair you have. He's a strong 5'+ but has some work to do, to reach 6'.

Here's a few photos of the '08 Todd Co., Ky. Black Kings I got from Mark Hardie at Snake Traders.

And while I'm at it. A few pics of one of my '08 hold backs from
a WC gravid Pasquotank Co., Nc. Easterns. I can't wait to see what she produces............

Enjoy!
