Real differences between Eastern/Souther

Gatorpit Oct 02, 2009 05:21 PM

Hi there!

I am looking for a comprhensive methos of IDing whether a juvie hog is an eastern or a western.

I can't find a good comparison on line, and half the pics i see i question the knowledge of their owners...

Any help...side by side pics, anatomical identification methods, whatever would be greatly appreciated.

Subject line says easter vs. southern... in your post you say eastern vs. western...? Well if it is eastern vs western the easiest way to tell them apart is the arrangment of the head scales.

Western:

Eastern:

Whoops! Sorry...yeah I meant eastern and southeren...the westerns are easy.

I picked up a juvie on the road a few days back (when I posted) it's about 6 inches long...and like i said, i can't find anywhere that gives a detailed description of the differences...and i question the knowledge/experience of those that post some of the pics i've been seeing online.

It's not black, I can tell you that much...lol

The patterns are different when comparing eastern vs. southern... Do you have a photo?
