If you're planning on collecting, capturing for photography, or even moving/touching an animal, then yes, private property is the way to go. I can't speak to the ease or lack thereof with which you'll be able to find animals in such a large expanse.
If you're only interested in taking pictures, road cruising is the best bet for improving your odds of seeing herps...but there is the chance you'll get stopped by TPWD who might think you're collecting (which was made illegal in 2007).

Hello Frank,.....good luck......just keep moving till you figure them out....Billy went to the tracks up north this week and saw like all kinds of snakes so they are still out here and moving upward.....should have something down there if you got any kind of rocks or hills .....have fun.....you miss us yet?>>>LOL...

Yea I miss everyone. From what I hear this place is nothing but rock. I was told it is full of rattlers. I hope I find more then tonight. Two DOR cottons and a live water snake and 1 DOR snapper. Found nothing when I got out to look.
