'Brutus' the BT- Feeding video.

sdslancs Oct 03, 2009 09:28 PM

I've been working with my big BT for a couple of weeks now, trying to get him to come and stand on a step and climb on my knee while I feed him. He picked it up really fast and is becoming more patient, waiting while I get the next food item.
I decided to do this training, because he started getting too pushy and out of control. As big as he's getting, I didn't like that feeling, so I thought I'd try and turn his enthusiasm into something we could both enjoy.
Anyhow, here's the latest video of what I'm talking about.

Hello there,
thanks for sharing your video, also good to see you spend quality time with your albig. I was curious to why it is so dark in there? It seems very dark on the video to me, I wanted to see more of your Brutus but could barely make him out. an inexpensive 4' fluorescent strip can do wonders for any enclosure providing some more ambient light. Curious if you get him outside at all, the footcandles available with daylight opens a new World that you can see in a varanids eye....
Post some more images of him, he looks like a champ

Thanks and you're right, it could use more light in there, but I'm 'handyman challenged'! The sun comes in the window in the morning but after that, it's just the lights from the heat lamps and they don't get to the whole room. Though, my guys seem to move throughout the room quite a lot and seek the dark areas as much as the light. Been that way for 18 mos and they seem to be doing okay?
Thanks for your input and I do agree, it would be nice to have it brighter.
I haven't taken them outside yet, but would love to.
Nothing can compare to the way they look and I'm sure, feel outdoors!
I'll see if I can find some pictures with more light.

BRO?

sdslancs Oct 07, 2009 05:34 PM

Thanks boadave! Lol @ "Bro"- not a problem.

I feed him f/t chicks, small mice, shrimp, mussels and quail.
I use small pieces to make the sessions last longer, but he could easily down an adult quail or large rat in one gulp!
That's no fun though. Here's today's session....he was a good boy.
