My Blair's phase, Elvis

chrissyk35 Oct 04, 2009 08:32 PM

Here is a few pictures of my Graybanded Kingsnake, Elvis. He started out as my dad's, but my dad quickly grows tired of owning any pets these days ( not just Elvis, but canaries also, lol) and i inherited Elvis. Who knows what else i might have inherited from dad if he had gone ahead and gotten the Emerald Tree Boas and Green Tree pythons he's always wanted

That is a huge, very nice looking Blairs. Someone has been taking excellent care of him or feeding him steroid mice. How long is he? Congrats on your inheritance! BA

I actually don't know how long he is actually, i was lucky he was still enough for me to take those pictures of him When my father had gotten him, he was actually quite thin, he was only being fed one mouse a month, and now he is chowing down on three adult mice every week to ten days, so he has filled out quite nicely

That kind of feeding schedule will have him obese and unhealthy. Alterna are not heavy-bodied snakes, you can back him off to a jumbo mouse every 2-3 weeks. You will save yourself some cash, and your snake's health.

Okay, i just got a somewhat accurate measurement of Elvis, with help from my dad. He is 39 inches, give or take an inch, so he's a little over 3 feet. And thank you John, for your advice on cutting back on his feeding, i greatly appreciate any advice. I've listened and taken advice from my dad on the care of my snakes because he has raised and been involved with snakes for over 40 years, even helping establish what is now known as the New England Herp Society. But as i said before, i greatly appreciate any advice anyone gives me on here, since i am a newbie here
