Freezer for feeders

varanid Oct 04, 2009 09:17 PM

I need some help estimating how many small rabbits a given cubic foot of freezer can hold. Next order I'm switching my 'tics to rabbits cause they're already on XXL rats, but my current freezer is tiny--it's an upright, maybe like 4 or 5 cubic feet, and only holds a couple of boxes of rats for rodent pro. If I want to be able to order enough rabbits for most of a year, how big a freezer do I need to buy? Would a 9 cubic feet one be big enough? Or do I need to look at the really big ones like the 12 cubic feet?

From the perspective of the cost of the freezer and energy efficiency go with a chest freezer. Just be sure to have things organized before you load it up. For comparison, I have a 24 cubic footer, I can load it with over 500 pounds of meat. I like having a little extra room so I can keep things arranged by size and I don't need to dig through a bunch of stuff to find what I need. Remember, as your snakes grow so does the size of their food. Jumbo rabbits and pigs can fill a freezer pretty quickly.
