whoa! never seen this...is it a calico? very nice!

rainbowsrus Oct 05, 2009 10:26 AM

Yeah,it's a Calico. The same one Brian Sharp still has on his website, he went through a secondary change about a year ago from this:

to his even whiter self now:

Neat changes. Calico seems weird for brb yet still nice!

TimS Oct 05, 2009 12:03 PM

wow dave looks like you are going to have a snow rainbow on your hands in no time. I really hope that the calico works out to be genetic in one way or another.

rainbowsrus Oct 05, 2009 02:15 PM

Yeah, I figure one more evolution and there will be no color left. I sure do want to make more just like him!!!!!!

that gene type is poorly understood in most species it is found in, it has been reproduced but all the babies started off normal colored in the other species of snakes and showed up later, almost appearing random in occurrence but it is a genetic anomaly that able to be duplicated but the mode of inheritance is unknown. Except in a recently proven amazon tree boa that had the trait as co dominate inheritance from the get go but that animal is not the same type of calico that you have here and you see in reticulated pythons.

unreal color change from when yo first got him. Would it be too much trouble for you to make a post showing his transition up until this date?

Pretty much a one stpe change, he was his usual self and then in a shed or two he changed to this color. In the year since there have been no drastic changes, just some lightening of the new, less white areas (compared to prior stark white - white areas).

Man I think he is getting lighter! Your Calico may turn into a Leucistic by the end of his life... way cool! I really hope that it is reproducable!!!

Okay, now what does he really look like? LOL! That's the strangest thing the way there is a line where the white gets more intense on the top of his body.

rainbowsrus Oct 06, 2009 12:38 PM

The white on top has been there for years.....

The story is he was originally sold as a normal looking BRB at some show in California. Then as he matured, the white came in as you see it in the pic above. Don't know if it came in all at once as to area or intensity if white.

Brian Sharp bought him and had him for a while, bred him and ended up losing the babies to a thermostat failure.

I bought him from Brian, produced two litters of offspring last year. Last fall he went through another change into....

and now....

He has gotten more white in, look at the area around his right eye....

IT's amazing how much he has changed in the last year alone.

I have kept a large assortment from each of the three litters.
