A QUESTION FOR THE PROS frozen vs fresh

surilover Oct 05, 2009 10:37 AM

Hi to everyone, I SERIOUSLY decided to switch to frozen thawed rodents for my retic.

What I would really like to know if there are guys doing it for years without any health issues. Because I read in many sites that if you feed FT that has been for many months in the freezer you loose vitamins and proteins, etc.

I thought complementing it with fresh poultry legs (he´ ll eat) if is necessary.

Is it safe to add suplements? I really don t want to do it.

I would apreciate your advice and experience.

Thanks

I've raised up snakes before (though not retics) with only using frozen rodents and had no problems. My oldest that I have right now is a boa constrictor I got when I was all of 12. He's *always* eaten F/t with me, and is alive and healthy still That said, I order 2-3 times/year so they're not in my freezer forever either. When I was a kid my folks didn't want me taking up the whole freezer and now that I'm married, neither does my wife!

ideally, you dont want whole frozen food to stay in the feezer, much longer than about 6 months or so (3-4 months would be ideal, for "long term" frozen kept food)

So, do you feed frozen , what do you think about poultry?

just to add, my post was, as a guideline, with the assumption that you arent pulling all the air out and sealing it (ala foodsaver). this is the assumtion they are just in bags or zip lock type bags.
