Turtle tank 30 gallon...

athos_76 Sep 17, 2003 11:32 AM

Ok, I just went to the local pet store, and they have a turtle tank 30gallon. 36x12x18 LxWxD. My two snappers are about 2 in long. Should I just go for a 55 or would this be good for now? My other option is, get a 75 which is 48x24x20 and make my own turtle tank by removing an end and getting a shorter piece of tempered glass in there.... If they both are 2 in, what size tank should I get and when?

there are always so many choices when trying to figure out what to put your turtle in. I have mine in a 20 gal long right now. its nice to have him in a tank that you can look and see him well. one of the things in the future that I have thought about is how deep aquariums are. there will be alot of wasted space and money on aquariums as the turtle grows. I personally think I'm going to put mine in a tub of some kind as he grows. rubbermade or other wise. they aren't as tall and some of them are semi translucent. plus they are much more affordable. especially since I know the turtle will be out growning any indoor enclosure I ever buy.
as to your comment about having to replace the end piece of glass so your filter will fit. I would suggest either switching to a canister filter or use a shallower tank or tub.
good luck, Chris
