Feeding corns asf pinkies

krfun Oct 06, 2009 04:27 PM

I just got my first two corns on Sunday. They are both 5 weeks old. An Abbott Okeetee female and an Amber male.

I raise ASFs for my ball pythons and have been freezing newborn pinkies for the corns.

I am worried because the pinkies look to big for these little guys. I have never had snakes this small.

Have you guys ever fed asf pinkies to your new corns?
How can you tell if the pinkie is to big?
Any harm in trying to feed them one?

Thanks

The thickness of the food item should be about the same width as the thickest part of the snake. ASF's are RATS and most baby corns start off eating pinky MICE. Therefore it would stand to reason that maybe those pinkies are too big and you'll need to feed them mice until they're up to a size where they can eat ASF rat pinkies.

asf and mouse pinks are similar in size, just harvest right away because they seem to fuzzy-up pretty quick, corns can consume a larger prey than a King of same size,so i would say no problem.C

Really?

This looks a lot bigger than something I'd feed to a hatchling Corn Snake.

I agree that they might not tackle that ,"out of the egg size" but its late in the season and probably has a few meals in them, I bet if they tackled it they would comsume it ,and if you get the pinkies as red hots , itll work,i agree that an asf is not as small as a mouse pink...

yes I have used asfr
if they cannot swallow it, it's too big
actually....it all depends on the temps as to if too big or not....I have had baby corns before that would eat 4 pinks at a time when their brothers and sisters were eating 1 or 2....they all grew well....usually...1 per feeding.....
good luck.

Just thought I would follow up.

Found 13 new pinkies this morning when I checked on the ASFs.
Offered one to each corn with no interest.
Left two live pinkies in each tank and left for work. Got home and both corns have nice bulges and are relaxing in their warm side hides. No pinkies in either tank.

I am relieved. I never had snakes this small and was worried that they would not feed.

Next feeding will be f/t.

Thanks for the replies.
