West Texas Herps.?

ddodge Oct 07, 2009 10:26 PM

Hi. Igot a 02 female "yellow" western at the NH show a week ago that said she got her from this breeder at the Daytona show back in 02 or 03. Has anyone heard of them or know if they are still around? Thanks.

P.S. I'll be posting pics soon.

Who or what are you referring to, the original breeders of your snake, the snake itself or perhaps the "yellow" type of snake you got. Your question is very ambiguous.

From what I understand Richard no longer sells hognoses.I guess originateing many morphs has its down side.

Through a series of unfortunate events he decided to get out of the hognose business in 2008.

I think he is talking about west Texas reptiles. It was a business. I think it was Richard Evans. Now out of business.

Please don't talk about snake prices when my wife is around!!

Ok, that makes more sense, thanks for the clarification. I know of Mr. Evans by reputation but I was unaware of his business name other than his web site albinohognose.com when it was online. Richard Evans was also brought up before in this thread earlier this year.

Is anyone at the liberty to disclose what happened? I bought a couple of hoggies from Richard, nice guy!

krhodes Oct 09, 2009 04:50 PM

Spoke to Richard today and he gave me liberty to share.
There were 2 main reasons for him getting out of breeding reptiles.
1) Texas law. All the recent legislation regarding captive propagation and selling or shipping native reptiles.
2) He felt the business side, took over the fun side of breeding.

He still enjoys talking about field observation, past stories, and hognose morphs.

Thanks Brent. She doesn't appear all that yellow to today's standards, but I'm hoping to bring more of it out by breeding her to this male. He is yellower than I can capture in this photo, but you'll get the gist. I'll post another link because I'm having a hard time atatching images.Dustin

Richard was a visionary before there were any hognose morphs. He started collecting unusual wc hognose and should be considered the father of the hognose craze. It is him who put this species in the eyes of everyone on this page as it is scene today. The interest in hognoses was dismal at best before Richard ...........
