NICEST FIRE CLUTCH OF SEASON

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Oct 09, 2009 09:31 AM

We did well on Ball clutches this year but I only posted a few interesting things. This cluth of Fire's however are so extraordinary I thought I would post them. This line is from the U.K. and the normal female I used is an EXTREMELY light colored normal. These are the results...

Actually the "normal" female is a strange one I picked out of thousands of imports 5 years ago. Last year I bred her to a Pastel as a test and got 3 Pastels like this one. I'm thinking I might know the genetics so this year I'm breeding her back to her Pastel son. I had 2.1 Pastels last year from her but kept all of them. Here's a pic of her son....Thanks

Nice clutch Tom!

Isn't it possible the pastel in the fire clutch was a result of retained sperm from the pastel sire in the previous season? I have had a few mixed batches resulting from sperm retention.

Best regards,
Alan Cole

It would have to have been from last year IF IT'S A PASTEL AT ALL. I had one clutch this year with 3 fathers!!!

Interesting..."if its a pastel at all"? What do you mean?

Does the mother look like a pastel or a light normal?

The hatchling in the pic looks like a pastel doesn't it?

A very nice clutch Tom! Congrats!

Best regards,
Alan Cole

I look at it and sometimes think it's a Pastel and sometimes not...

No species is more fun to breed than Balls, but Striatus are actually INTERESTING.

I think these are the NICEST Boas out there albiet scarce. They may reach a maximum of 8-9' long and are incredibly variable in color. They can be solid black, gold, orange, peach, virtually no two look alike. They are Jamaican Boas [Epicrates subflavus] and I have been breeding them for over 30 years now....

Jamaican Boa, of course. Insular Epicrates and Copperheads have been my favorite species' since I was knee high to a grasshopper.

Ryan's P.S. under his signature, saying he just got a nice big litter of Haitians? That's where my request for seeing them came from.

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Oct 09, 2009 04:56 PM

I'd love to see your pics as well. I've NEVER seen babies this red before...

Wow those are really Nice. Ive never seen them that Red. I bet even as an adults those have some nice color.. Those are some of my Favorite Boas to RyanT. I sure don't share Your thoughts on Pieds though. I remember haveing a nice pair when I was just a Pup.79 1980's?..lol. Thats a long time ago. But they were some of the Nicest Boas to own. I never did get any babys out of them , but I seen some breedings. I had them about a year an a half and sold them back to a fella at MSU. I wish I would have held on to them a bit longer.. The pair I had were alot darker with tanish/brown highlites.

Those are some Really Nice Fire's It would be nice to have around 20 females to Raise up for breeding to Every cross out thier. The one looks like a pastel. I like the bigger pattern of the others. Congrats
