How early can a male breed?

SaneJane Oct 09, 2009 10:43 AM

I'm curious to how young a male ball python can breed with success. Is it possible to breed and 09' hatch male during the 2010 breeding season?
Thank you,
Jane

I think another breeder has said this before: Yes, he will certainly get big enough if you feed him up right and he doesn't stop feeding for too long over the winter season. But he probably won't have as much success as an older male. A more "seasoned" male, one might say.

Ball pythons sexually mature by length/size not by age. Males usually mature at two and a half feet. That's why some irresponsible breeders power feed their snakes, to get them up to size for breeding season.
