Breeders: How often would you allow yourself to breed...

Atomikk Sep 17, 2003 01:27 PM

a female veiled per year? once? twice? i dont assume anything above 3 times a year since it does create tremendous amounts of stress. I do want my female to live more than 3 years (she is 1.1 years old).. any suggestions?

i will only breed once every 6 months or so. that gives her lots of time to recover, and for me to get the babies situated. the best indicator is her health before and after breeding. it's different with every cham.

You won't breed her too many times a year or YOU won't live long.

Actually I think twice a year or less. It does take a great toll on them. Some breed them three times but I won't do it.
Although sometimes they retain sperm and lay another clutch when they want to. So I guess we can't controll everything!

that 6 months is the guide here...

ok, that is what I thought. Cuz today I almost bred my two veiled again (it has been about 5-6 months since her last breeding). I just want to minimize her stress and trouble.

I might just wait for another 3-4 months before breeding her again. Also, it doesnt look like she retained any sperm, she is bigger (than before, but she is also alot older now)..but doesnt display the qualities of a gravid female!

and become gravid again. I am not sure how long though.
My crested gecko has been without a male three months and laid three fertile clutches without him.
