Input Needed on an Unusual Animal

BoidMorphs Oct 10, 2009 06:45 PM

Several years ago, Tim Frazier aquired a male brb of unknown background that was super YELLOW. This animal sired one litter from which I obtained a sibling pair. From this pair, I'd hoped to produce something unusual like the original yellow animal. I expected to prove out the trait which Tim thought was hypo. Well, this year they finally went! Out of 2.9 babies, only one looked like this. There were several slugs so there could have potentially been more, who knows? I know she's not hypo because, if anything, her black is very pronounced and there is no orange or red present anywhere. I'm hoping she'll do a radical change as she sexually matures but she's beautiful right now in her own right. Could she be anery or? I hate to use the term "morph" until I have a better idea of her genetics. It's definitely a recessive trait though. We'll just have to see what happens in the future I guess. Your thoughts as to what she may be?

Here's another pic of her with a sibling. They are all sweet but I can't wait to see if any more of this anomoly pop out this coming season!

Here is an animal that i have. It came from a supposedly het anery x het anery clutch. I say supposedly, as i didnt trust the source 100% The aneries do look anerythristic, but i will wait till i have proved it out to be sure. In the clutch however were reds, oranges, anerys, and this yellow animal. It started out quite pale, much like yours is, and has got more and more yellow as time has gone on.
Like you question in your post, could it be an anery? well i have thought about this lots with my own animal, and i really cant see why it cant be another form of it. Or is there actually yellow in the brbs colour, except that its hidden by the red?? by removing the red we are left with a yellow animal? the anerys out there at the moment, for example the Sharp strain, could they actually be animals absent of both the reds/oranges and yellows?
either way, i bought 8 animals from this clutch, and should work out was is going on during the 2010 breeding season

Hi Dave. Your animal does look very similar to mine and virtually everything you say are my thoughts exactly. I can't really pin a label on this animal until I do further breedings to prove out what's going on. Unfortunately, this will take a considerable amount of time since my baby's a female. Kinda wish it was a male to speed things up a little. With some luck, I hope to produce a male like her this coming season to put together in the future.
After I have a better idea of the genetics involved, I'll introduce the hypo gene into the mix to see what, if anything, happens! Of course, they would be hets, which means an additional generation down the road. The anticipation in all of this is going to kill me though lol. It does make it a lot of fun though. Thank you very much for your response.

I had a high yellow female, but since I got her from craigslist, I dont know what her origins are. I also had a baby in my first litter that had a yellowish-lavender hint to her. I sold her so I dont know how her colors turned out. I will try to get a picture from the new owner though.
Here is a pic of my old high-yellow female with my high orange male.

I am not sure what she is, but she has wonderful markings. The sibling looks really nice too. You may need to wait and see how she changes as she ages, and then try to produce more like her next year.

There is so much that we don't know about genetics, but this is also one reason why it is so interesting to work with the non-normal ones.
