Breathing trouble?

MightyBD Oct 10, 2009 11:55 PM

I have a 5 year old dragon who over the last few days seems to have developed a little problem breathing.
The intake breath seems as if it is having trouble.

What other signs do I need to look for to identify RI?

Wheezing, coughing, gargling type sounds. What are your temps, day and night, and humidity? Could be a simple fix such as bumping up your temps a bit. Or, you might want to see a vet and get some baytril put in him, if it is a RI.

The temps have been raised.
No Mucus, gargling, just some gaping, maybe some wheezing/gasping.

I agree with Chris. You don't want him to stop eating and losing weight which can happen if this goes untreated. I do recommend a vet check and he will likely prescribe an anitbiotic. It sounds like the beginning of a respiratory infection which can easily be remedied if caught in time.

Can you explain in detail what you mean 'intake breath seems a little more difficult'?

It is actually my new girlfriends dragon. (I have 2 my self)
I have not been over to see my self.
She described it as, 'when he breaths in, he gapes a little with an open mouth'
She says there is no mucus or any blockage in his nostrils.
I am hoping to go over tonigth and see the guy for my self.
I will bring my temp gun to check temps so I can answer your questions more in full.
Thanks

Dragons do gape if they are too warm. Is he active and eating normally? If everything else is fine, the temps may be a bit too high, which i expect you plan to check when you go over.

How long did she have the dragon? If really new in her care its possible he's just hissing at her.
