I have a question about the housing set up; I tried something similar although less pretty years back. I found it a royal PITA to use relatively tall top opening glass cages within a restricted space, cause it was hard to get in and out of the cages for cleaning or checking on the animals. How'd you get around that?

There's 4 1/2" - 5" above each tank, I spot clean with no problem with a plastic spoon. All the the wood can be removed through the 5" space. For the major cleaning job, I've used a wet and dry shop vac. to remove all the sand, in all the tanks, then remove the tanks to clean. Or I've also washed the tanks in place, and then sucked the water out with the shop vac. It's better to remove the tanks to clean all glass.
