Breeding Monocled Cobras.

cobrafan Oct 12, 2009 02:32 PM

I put my albinos together last week after the male had been refusing food for about a month.Provided w/ heavy misting and nothing, the male was all over the female but she just kept her tail pressed to the cage floor all night. They are both 5 ft. or more and at leasy 6 yrs. old. I have since backed off the temps on both of them to around 70 at night 75-77 F during day and still feeding the female, male continues to refuse food.Think she needs a longer cooling period? If so how low and how long my room temps. unfortunately are not very consistent. Thanks for any advice.
Thanks,
Drew.

A little early in the year or a little early into the cooling/misting period?

Naja kaouthia can and will breed almost anytime of year. Most of the heaviest breeding occurs in the fall. But I have put them together midsummer and had eggs in the fall. All it takes to breed them is a healthy male and female.

I think most require at least some kind of cycling before breeding...mine aren't turning out to be that wasy and they defintely healthy and appropriately sxed...Drew.

Have been breeding them for 34 years and still think that they are like cornsnakes in all it takes is healthy animals to get them to breed. We have had females produce eggs that hatch after not being with a male for 3 years. No magic to it just put them together.
