Hi, I was hoping someone could explain the different honduran morphs. I'm not a milksnake guy but I can't resist the colors. Which morphs are recessive and which are dom/co-dom?
Thanks

Every single genetic morph having to do with Hondurans are recessive traits, ALL of them. Certain aberrant anomalies are an entirely different situation altogether though. Some of these pattern mutations can be recessive, while most are known to just pop up for whatever reason(s) here and there.
The only weird single genetic milksnake trait that the heredity is not really understood at all yet is the T-positive albino form of nelsoni which has just recently been introduced into this country from Europe.
Most colubrid genetics is far different than many of the boa and python morphs, with many being dominant, co-dom, etc...

I may be mistaken, but I don't think anyone has a complete and definitive explanation of the "Extreme" genetics and how to predictably breed for(or with) it?????
The Extreme Ghost,Extreme Hypo,And Extreme Albino's all have a different look and color. Not to mention Don Shore's Extreme Triple Homo.
I have an Extreme Tricolor Hypo that is colored unlike any Honduran I have ever seen.He was produced by Terry M's "Mystery male", this year he produced two Tricolored Hypo's and they are completely different, along with tangerine and normal albino's and triple hets. Why were'nt the albino's,snows or anery "Extreme"???Could they be "Het" for "Extreme"????
I bred a Falcon "Extreme"to several females and NEVER produced an "Extreme".
Anyone produce an "extreme" anery???? Why not??
I have alot of questions about this color phase and look forward to the breedings that hopefully will provide some insight.
Yeah Rodney,...I know all about those things you mentioned, but I wanted to keep it very simple and basic for the poster regarding recessive traits vs dominant, and co-dom traits as in boa and python genetics.
How would I have begun to tell him about all that??..LOL!

what caught my attention was the "only" part of your post.I feel there are many mysteries with the genetics of all Milksnakes that have yet to be discovered and explained.
No problem Rodney,...hey, I fully agree about the plenty of mysteries thing you mentioned too..LOL!, mega, extreme, aberrancies, etc...plenty of head-scratching left for everyone..hahaha!

Rodney, your questions are good ones. Maybe i'm missing something or have been out of touch too long but isn't the pivotal issue that "extreme" is a function of hypomelanism, a variant of the hypo trait? That's WHY there are extreme ghosts, and that's why no one has yet produced an "extreme" anery? (to be extreme it has to be a hypo; if it's hypo and anery then it's a ghost) an "extreme" amel would have to be an extreme hybino, etc) And "extreme" ghosts and "extreme" hypos and "extreme" amels all "have a different look and color" because the "look and color" of each of them--ghost, hypo, and amel--is modified if the animal is also extreme. Like i say, seems too simple, but that's my reaction. I'm not saying this answers all your questions but does it focus them any?
Excellent observations Terry.I cannot begin to compare notes with you on genetics but I think I grasp the basis of what you are saying.A point worth noting is that Don Shores produced an "Extreme" Hybino this year and last year produced an "Extreme" Snow from a pair of "Extreme" Hypo Double Hets that I believe originated from you.
Based on what you say would the Hypo derivative apply to the Snow, since it is Anery/Albino??
Hi Rodney,
First let me say congrats on your big day!
In my humble opinion the Extremes are really nice hypos that have been reduced to the point that they look silver to gray and the eyes are red and that is the end of the mystery. We have Extreme Ghosts and Extreme Hypos that you can visually see a difference in. We also have a pair of Hybinos from Extreme Hypos, but they don't look any different than other Hybinos. Don produced an Opal or Triple Homozygous from Extremes, but it is still a little early to know if that one will look any different as an adult and if it will look different because it is a Triple Homozygous or because of it being from Extreme Hypos. Time will tell as the work continues.

I am of the opinion that there is alot of potential in the "Extreme" gene. The ruby red eyes similar to the Amel's, leads me to believe that there is more than meets the eyes to this phenomenon!! (pun intended).
