feeding during pair introduction

brianlogan Oct 13, 2009 12:44 PM

Hello out there, I have an early season feeding situation.

So I had put a few of my pairs together about 10 days ago or so, just to see if the animals would start courting yet, but thought most likely that it was a little early. I wanted to feed one last good feed about that time but was waiting for the rats from my supplier. So I now have the rats, but all three pairs are "locking up"/ courting now.

My question is, would it be too much of a distraction / bad idea to pull the males for one last feeding at this point, or should I let them continue their work?

I really wanted to get one more good feed in before the long haul of breeding. But do not want to interrupt any "cycles" that might be developing.

Any advice would be helpful and welcome

Thank you for your time.

Brian Logan

When my snakes are breeding, I offer food, and the males rarely accept, but some of the females eat all the way through the breeding and pregnancy. The males seem to not have anything on their mind except the ladies. Hope this helps. Sharon

Hi Brian, hope you are well!

I say just leave them to their thing if the males are actively courting. Sometimes they'll take a couple days off, if you notice no interest for a few days, maybe you could pull the male out and offer them both food? I agree with Sharon and in my limited experience, the boys only got one thing on their mind once they start. I don't see how missing that one last meal is going to make or break them (but I'm not there and don't know your boas, so that's your judgement call to make).
Good luck, wonder what you've got cooking up? Maybe some more red group jungles?

take care,
-April

I put my male in with my female last week and the male was all over her for 24 hours. I thought I would mist them a bit.. Right after i mist them, he got nervous and stopped showing interest. So I took him out and gave the 8ft female(who just had a litter 5 months ago) one more rabbit. The male goes back in after she poos.
