Proper husbandry should cover it...

Ditto to Mykee. If kept in proper temp/humidity you shouldn't have a problem.

If you do have an issue with shedding on a new snake (or even one in your collection now), soak him or her for about 15 min in luke warm water. Then, you can either take a damp towel and let them slither through it while you hold them or place them back in their cage. This has worked great for us with the new snakes we've gotten that had problems shedding.

Interesting? Could you please explain how it is used for Tegus & monitors and what the effects are?

shottz Oct 13, 2009 08:16 PM

I don't have shedding issues, but with Tegus it makes there skin really shinny and smooth and amazing sheds, and helps them pass pop really really easy, and it gives them VIT A and C, my Tegus are so healthy and entergetic it makes me wonder what it would do to my snakes.

So, how would you administer it to the snakes? I assume this is an oral administration, not topical? Would you drown a rat in it...?

For tegu its 1 teaspoon per 1 lb of ground turkey, I would say no more than a few drops on a mouse. Humans use it for health reasons as wel, seems like an all around good idea.

zefdin Oct 14, 2009 02:16 PM

I bet if it was in pill form you could get the snake to eat is easily. Not that I am saying to do this, but any idea is worth hearing and some are worth trying, and some even work..

I was doing some reading about administering oils as supplements to animals and Vitamin E oil was recommended over Cod liver oil because it is less likely to become toxic. Have you had any experience with Cod liver oil becoming toxic? Tried using Vit E instead?

Nope, i love cod liver oil, i feed beef liver/turkey mixture with cod liver oil and the oil helps digest the beef liver, my tegu is a healthy beast and his sheds are amazing. 1 teaspoon to 1lb of turkey would not be toxic.
