A concern?

greenfiremajick Oct 13, 2009 01:32 PM

Hi all-

I just got a new tri color. She is in blue right now. When I got her out of the box, she seemed pretty "stiff," as in not moving much or undulating, etc. Also, she seems to sort of fall to the side, though not all the time. She can still recover, etc but she sort of rolls to the side, just a little bit....Is this normal for hognose that's probably pretty stressed from a plane ride and being handled by some strange, new person?
She has moved around and she is smelling, etc. Just need some input on this.

Thanks

"Oh, bother," chortled Winnie the Pooh, as he chambered another round........

You do have a valid concern. Hognose may be sluggish when exposed to cold temperatures during shipment, and can be jostled around harshly, but they respond quickly when placed in an adequate environment at your home. If you haven't done so already, advise the seller of the current condition of the tri-color, just to cover yourself in case of problems later. I wouldn't worry too much about lack of activity if the snake went into blue shortly after arrival, but falling off to the side is not normal behavior.
