Project Suggestions?

KevinM Oct 13, 2009 02:15 PM

Hello Pit Forum!! I am a corn and king guy, but recently got a pair of cb09 bullsnakes. I am thinking about getting another pit project, likely in the gopher or pine snake category. Any suggestions for a relatively easy species that doesnt get too tremendous and stay relatively calm?? I was thinking along the lines of a San Diego or Sonoran gophers, or possibly northern pines. Any suggestions would be great based on your experiences!

San Diego Gophers are the smallest of the few you mentioned and I personally love them and think they're cool snakes to own and breed. I like Sonoran Gophers a lot more, but they tend to get a good bit larger than the San Diegos. Northern Pines are awesome too, but these can get quite large, though not all turn into enormous beasts. My breeder female Southern Pine is probably just about 6 foot long and she is 10 years old. Hands down, my fave Pits to own and breed. If you choose Northerns I think people tend to like locality animals, and if you do not have a solid history on them and intend to breed them the babies may not exactly be in demand. I'd insist on locality animals if I wanted Northerns...unless they were Albinos...haha
Good luck

I am partial to northerns, myself.

Here is a female Burlington Co., NJ animal that I produced this year:

So much contrast on such a youngster. She will become a spectacular adult. Looking like her Father already

Get Pines, lots of pines, and a few gophers, and some latin american Pituophis, and a few more gophers!!!!!

Seriously, good luck and enjoy your trip into Pituophis land..
