gravid veild?

jovbunny Sep 17, 2003 02:51 PM

ok I need help, my male and female veilds were in the same cage till a little after 6 months of age due to a lazy boyfriend who would not finish her cage. Well its been a month since they've been separated and my female's belly has grown very round. I tried to feel for eggs but I cannot feel anything, she has never shown veild gravid colors that I've seen but she has gotten bright blue bars and orange spots all over her. Is this gravid colors? can you not always feel the eggs at a month? she's only been getting about 3 silkies a day since they were separated because I was scared she could be gravid and wanted to keep the egg amount low, so she's not fat from over feeding. What should I do. . . please give me some info.

from what you have described, she is jut receptive. if she had an overall darker color than normal, as well as bright colors, then she would probably be gravid. take a look at my site, i have lots of pics of my veileds on there.

And if she is gravid she should be fed more. When gravid they need nutrition to produce the eggs. If she is gravid there is nothing you can do about it now. I wouldn't incubate the eggs though.
Try 6 bugs a day. Make sure she gets calcium. Also weigh her daily. If she is gaining weight very fast she is gravid.

The silkies are large, and they are dusted daily. But to keep the amount of eggs as low as possible because she is still so tiny I reduced her food intake and her belly still grew. I gave her a small box of dirt and shes not interested in it, I also still cannot feel any eggs so she's now eating all she wants. She remained a sweet heart through it all, I should be out of the gravid woods by now right?

I dont know why it did that, I only hit send once. She can hold sperm even if she was not pregnate to begin with?!?!?! she's never been bred before this "could have bred" time. now I have more to worry about. . . would you sugest trying to beef her up and get her as large as possible in case she does get pregnate? or should I just feed her normal and hope?
