Snake rack

daveb82 Oct 13, 2009 06:07 PM

I am making a new snake rack. Have changed the design quite a bit from old one. Alot of the designs on the internet suggest using pegboard as a lid/shelf My only concern since I know they are escape artist is would a baby corn snake be able to fit through pegboard?

im not sure how big the holes are on pegboard bu i have had corns escape through holes as little as a quarter inch. i would thing that peg board holes are around an eighth to a quarter so i would be careful. i have never used pegboard in any of my racks, if you could maybe explain a little better the details of your rack. that way we may give you some better insight.

Dave,...if the holes are no larger than exactly 1/8th of an inch, it is totally safe from their heads getting through. 1/8 diameter is the size of the sldering tip I use to melt holes in plastic enclosures, and I have never had a corn escape yet.

Now don't get me wrong, an exceptionally small "runt" corn might be able to, but just use some common judgement there.

good luck with the build!

peg board doesn't seem like it would be sturdy enough for a shelf.
I do use peg board on the back of my racks, though.
I use flex watt and fasten it the length of the peg board and fasten the peg board to the back of the rack.
I didn't want open backed shelves but also I didn't want fully closed backs either. With the peg board I got the back I needed and the circulation I wanted.
