Last clutch of 2009

robhaneisen Oct 13, 2009 09:44 PM

This is my last clutch this year and the only clutch this year from a female that double-clutched. She laid her first clutch of tang. albino Hondurans on June 3 and seven hatched on Aug. 8. She laid her second clutch on Aug. 3 and five hatched on Oct. 11.

Her first clutch was al male. I'm hoping for a little variety form this bunch.

Thanks Doug. From a quick visual (shorter tails vs. longer tails) I think I have 2 males and 3 females but I won't know for sure until I probe 'em after they shed.

That sounds much better than the other clutch..LOL!

Now, I'm certainly not knocking the probing method, because it certainly works fine and reliably, but for young hatchlings I find it to be so much simpler to just "pop" them instead.

Older one's, if it isn't real obvious I certainly probe though. Some guys even pop adults, but I feel better probing those personally.

Again, just wondering,.... everyone has a preference when it comes to certain things.

I never really learned popping. Probing is so much easier with Hondurans and black milks. They hatch out so big. With smaller snakes I can understand why it would be problematic.

Man you're up there shoveling snow and hatching out milks at the same time! Nice clutch Rob.

Dave:

No shoveling yet, though we are supposed to get a rain/snow mix Thursday and Friday night.

Two weeks ago it was almost 80!

I hatched out 59 hatchlings this year, which is my best year yet - more than half have sold which I think is pretty good so far considering how heavy I was on males.

That's great Rob. Sounds like you had a fantastic year! Now you deserve a break for a few months. Good luck with your projects next year as well.
