Feeding hatchling JCP

JackieP Sep 17, 2003 03:05 PM

Hi all

We've had our first clutch of Jungle Carpet pythons hatch in August this year and are having problems getting some them feeding. Could anyone give us any tips to get them feeding? Thank you in advance

First of all it's only the middle of Sep. so it's not a big concern yet. When were they actually born and when did they have their first sheds. I have had great success with dangling live fuzzies in front of them or leaving a live or f/t (hot) fuzzy in with them in a small container. Try every three days at the most, weekly is better. And make sure they are set up with good temps and humidity, as well as hides in the meantime. If they go two months from hatch without eating then you can come back.

Some baby carpets prefer to nail their prey from a perched position.

Hi, I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago with my hatchling JCP-he would not eat. Sometimes when JCPs are in cages a little too big they feel insecure and wont eat. I had mine in a 10 gallon and someone here said it was too big so I set him up in a very small shoebox and left him there for 3 days on a heating pad with no light and after that I dangled a hot f/t fuzzie in front of him and right away he struck and coiled. After that I moved him into the 10 again and the next week he ate with absolutely no problem and since then hes had about 3 meals with no problem.

Hope this helps
