Putting together a breeding operation

fabolousphil Oct 15, 2009 03:09 PM

Hello I am just starting to get into ball pythons. I mostly deal with grey banded kings. I purchased a pastel female, going to get a female pin stripe, female spyder, and a female mojave. I was thinking the best male for these ladies would be a male super pastel. Would that be a nice start for breeding projects or should i do something different. Please let me know what you think.

Depends on your budget and what you like. Everyone will give you opinions but yours is the one that matters.

Very true. I just think that the morphs I can create with that setup would be good for just getting into it. If I hatch some supers, bees, and lemon blasts i would be able to use the profits to expand and get some clowns and pieds. I'm just looking for opinions or suggestions on cool morphs i might have over looked.

Sounds like a nice group, you'd get some pretty morphs. Another idea would be to skip the Spider female and go with a Bumblebee for your male. Do you have a favorite morph you are shooting for?

My personal favorite is the super pastels. I also love the pastel clowns but that will have to wait because purchasing the girls and the super pastel male will limit my funding for a while. A bee female would be nice but with the spyder female i could produce them. A bee would enable me to produce killerbees though. I'll see if the wife will buy off on it. Thanks

Sounds like one heck of a plan...... if the funds were there I would make the male a super pastel ghost or 100% het ghost it will further broden those future possibilites......... but where's the normal/dinker female??

I've never thought about buying a normal. They really don't interest me. I quess it would be a cheap breeder but with the 3 females that i'm looking to pick up i don't see what good a normal would do. Is there something about normals that i'm missing or don't know.

Whatever you are shooting for should decide which male to get. A super pastel is a good one. Although i`d get another morph male also. Just in case your male doesn`t want to breed. I would also recommend some nice normal females too. Because there is a good chance you won`t get eggs from all your morph females.

I am getting the super pastel male but you bring up a good point. Maybe I should pick up a nice pastel male just incase. thanks for the help. I totally over looked having just one male.

How about a Hypo Pastel then all offspring would be 100% het hypo.
