Newbie needs advise

pythonaddict Oct 15, 2009 09:45 PM

My husband and I have had ball pythons and one jungle x diamond for six years, so a boa is a totally new experience. We were given a sad little creature today; it just shouts neglect. It's not our first 'rescue' snake, which is sad that people don't think before they buy. Supposedly he's a red tail boa, not even two feet long, but from what I've been reading this evening, that can be a misconception. I think I've got the basics down, but any other advise would be appreciated. As soon as it settles down, I will try and take a few pics and see if we can confirm what he is.

I finally got a good look at this little booger...and he's a redtail, but I don't know what kind. If anyone can help us, we would appreciate it.

First off, thank you for answering, I was scared I wasn't going to get any responses. When you say Centeral American, do you mean he is not a redtail? That he is a common boa? As I stated eariler, we've spend years reading about balls, and have not studied any on boas, just the ability to say, oh, that's a boa and not a python. Also, my husband and I haven't decided if we are going to keep this little guy, our biggest snake is our jungle x diamond, who is a little over six feet (though still growing). I don't know if I'm prepared for the massive beast a boa will become. My current goal is to get him/her healthy, then we will decide. Thanks for any advise.
