I am not neglecting my animals, infact they are being taken care of very well. I have them in a 7 X 5 X 3 foot tank, with one foot of sand, proper lighting and heating, a varitey of veggies and dry foods, and have natural sunlight daily. Wow, i didn't think i was neglecting my animals but if you guys think i am maybe i should get rid of them. I know more about reptiles than some of you "rude" people on this forum, infact i actually bred these "neglected" animals and produced healthy hatchlings. And yes, i am going to do something about the jaw, all i did was ask you guys a question to see if there was anyway to help him without going to a vet. Infact, i took pics of the jaw with my digital camera, sent them by email to a reptile vet, and they said that as long as it doesn't get infected he should be fine. They said the broken jaw isn't bad, and if he has normal mobility of his jaw he should be fine. As long as i carefully force feed him he should be ok. I am from america but am living with my aunt and uncle in greece. I am on a island called limnos. I would have to take a boat to Athens, or fly to Athens and drive for a few hours to get to the nearest vet. I bought my animals from the US but shortly after i bought my newest ones i moved to greece to learn the culture and the language. Just because you guys say "not to be mean" that doesn't mean that your message isn't mean and very rude. How would you know that i am neglecting my animals. Did you fly over here and look at them in their cage or did you read some message asking for help and advice on this forum and make a very rude judgement. I have had beardies and uros for over 8 years and have visited the vet many times for my dog and my reptiles. I like my reptiles so much i actually brought them over here. Now you tell me is that neglect? Also, i thought this forum was for helping people and giving them advice, not cutting them down. For those of you who made rude comments **** you and for those of you who backed me thank you.

Mike I never accused you of neglect. I only stated that I didnt see how you could treat it yourself. Its quite possible that I was wrong. I only want the best for your critter..

The hatchling that threw up was under the weather for a few days, but now he is the dominant one. He went from being the smallest to being the largest. I think i am going to separate them soon so they all can be the dominant ones of their cage lol. The force feeding is coming along ok. I am haveing difficulty with the male with the broken jaw because i am being extra careful. I have good news though. I am houseing the skinny male with the skinny female and one of them ate a little luttuce. I think it was the female but i am not sure. So i think i might not have to force feed the little girl anymore so that is good. I will just give her a fattening diet. Also, i emailed Euryale and gave him/her a peice of my mind. What i said on the forum was nothin compared to what i sent him/her. The funny thing about that person is they have had uros for less than a year, i have had uros for 8 years on and off. The only thing is with my previous uros i have never had any under fed ones or had to force feed them. so this part is new to me. sorry for making everything so long lol. To sum everything up, the uros are doing better, hatchlings are doing good, and i got Euryale back pretty damn good.

I wrote you back and ask that you please read it. I did not wish you harm and hope that everything works out.

and I didn't end up reading this until after I had already posted....

again, good luck!!!

I know this is WAY off topic, but thats really awesome that your in greece! My family has a beach house there! Don't ask me to spell it correctly, but its pronounced "hee OS". I have yet to go there, but here the place is absolutely amazing.

tara

PS-If you are greek, I'm pretty sure you have one of those amazingly crazy, hard to pronounce, no one ever gets it, last names. Well, at least I do thanks to my dad. And YES, I think the movie "my big fat greek wedding" was all too realistic to my dads side of the family.

again - take care and best of luck!

I must be having a bad day, but to be honest I think you're full of it. A vet tells you to just leave the jaw as is? Everything I've read and heard suggests that in order to properly heal a broken jaw it has to be immobilized. You took pictures of it with your digital camera, then post them on here. As a matter of fact, post pictures of your setups. That way we can see you’re not just spinning a tall tail. Bet you you’ll come up with an excuse not to. If you can’t provide proper access to a vet for your pets you shouldn’t have them period.

mike3 Sep 18, 2003 05:14 PM

My last name is Stamatoukos, and i didn't have time to post pics of broken jaw on webshots page but I have some pics of my set-ups when they were in america, (chicago). The really red male is the one with the broken jaw. Now they are in bigger cages and have an outdoor pen since it is so hot here lol. The fraction is so slight that the vet said it should heal on its own. It is not a horrible fracture but is is a smooth crack/break right down the middle of its jaw. If you think i am lieing which i am not why the **** would i care. Esie ese malaca kai skatoula figure out what that means if you translate that email me, the spelling is not exact some greek letters are missing lol. well at least you get to see how good of set ups i am giving them.

Uro pics here

I admit, I was wrong about the setups but I stand by what I said about access to a qualified vet. If you don't have access to one, then you shouldn't have te animals. And yes I am Canadian, just not one of the butt kissing variety. I'd rather offend a few people than see animals suffer needlessly. If t was a human we were talking about, the lack of medical treatment would surely cause an uproar, but it's OK when it's just a dumb reptile. Our hobby has a black enough eye as it is with all the mistreatment and improper care of animals that goes on. Mike might have the greatest intentions in the world but in my book, unless he gets that animal to a vet, he's falling down on the job.

mike3 Sep 19, 2003 07:17 AM

I am only going to be in greece until i learn the the language so i will probably be back home around the end of the school year.

That's great. I'm sure Mike is a nice guy(no sarcasm intended). it doesn't change the fact that he should get the animal to a vet to be looked at.

kailaya Sep 19, 2003 01:47 PM

a biologist? a herpotologist? a specialist? a vet?

Then i suggest you stop critisizing (sp?) and start listening bc mike3 is doing all that he can. The posts are suggestions, discussion, etc. Please, enough already.

Mike has told us that he is on an island greece right now. He has also told us he WAS living in chicago. Now lets put two and two together.

HE MOVED!

Do you expect his normal vet from Chicago to GO WITH HIM???
Do you expect him to say "Hey Auntie, Uncle...I can't wait to live with you, but could you move your house to the mainland? I need a nearby herp vet."
Did you EXPECT him to have troubles? Did HE expect to have troubles?

He couldn't leave his pets behind, and he had to live where he is. His hands are slightly tied. He just asked if there is something HE could do.

Get with the program...
I am tired of the "Holier than thou" additude I see on some of these forums. We are here to help each other, not ridecule and chastise them.

Go away...
...But feel free to come back and interact like a grownup when you're additude changes.

Oh and you know what? I hope like hell you're a vegetarian or kosher, because if not, you're a hypocrite (check out how most animals are treated in the food industry).
