Locality Senticolis

vegasbilly Oct 17, 2009 12:53 AM

In keeping w/the locality thread below I present my locality specific Senticolis..LOL. Seriously though I can personally attest to their particular locales as I picked them up in the locale personally. The male (small) last Spring, and the female last Wed. evening. Tough to get to sit still but hopefully they'll present themselves better over the coming years. Very, very easy snakes and so different then the NA Colubrids I've kept in the past. Both took to thawed mice immediately as well!

Good luck with those guys!

Cool Bill,

Here's my mesquite tree on "that one road" in cochise county Coachwhip.

You know where.

I just love that face.

Dang Nate, he's looking good! I was hoping another one would cross my path last week but as you know I wasn't there that long. He sure looks worth the commando raid through the thorns we went through to get him. Dude, if they had a "Coachwhip Chase" race in the Olympics you'd be the Michael Phelps of the event!

Probably resembled the herpetologist Austin Stevens when he chases a snake down, hurls himself on it, wrestles around with it for a bit, and the action is caught in "freeze-frame" action..LOL!

We saw probably the last 1/3 of that Coachwhip as it was leaving the road about 30 yds. or so in front of us. It was Nate's big "target species" so I punched it! As we got to where it had crossed I started to slow down..Nate bailed out looking very much like Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble when they were starting their car! Hit the asphalt in full stride!

LOL!!,...that's too funny, I can picture the sound of his feet paddling off like Fred Flintstone's feet do as he was jumping out of your car..LOL!

Nice snakes....and you are right in that they behave differently than other N. American Ratsnakes. To me they seem to have a certain intelligence about them that many snakes do not exhibit...when I walk in my snake room they often come out of there hiding boxes to check you out, but not in "I'm hungry way" that many snakes do. For example, while I was taking this photo, this guy seems to be turning his head and thinking "what is this all about".

Nice looking S. t. intermedia, John.

I agree about their intelligence, or at least awareness, and have seen my pair watching me too. They are as aware as my Chinese Beauties, without the racer-like flightiness.
