borneo giant banded forest gecko

nickpurvis Sep 17, 2003 04:35 PM

I was browsing on lllreptile today and came across a gecko I never heard of before.a borneo giant banded forest gecko.the scientific name is cyrtodactylus consobrinus.after looking on the old forum archives I found out it was a bent toed gecko.Ive heard these are a hard to keep species of gecko and Ive never kept geckos before but have kept many other lizards.would it be wise of me to get a pair of these geckos right now?or should I get some experience with other types of geckos.if I should get another type of gecko what would be a good type to prepare me for a gecko like this.thanks for your time

These guys aren't all that hard to keep but they can be difficult to house, if that makes scenes. They are a big gecko and a pair will need alot of space. My male unfortunatly died on my way home from the pet store and his mate a week later. They require a high humidity but not to high of heat. They like wet but no soaking subterane. If you want to start with something easier but will lead up to bent-toes dry your hand at Central American Banded geckos. These guys like high humidity but can tolirate low and are really sturdy like geckos. Do not confuse CA banded geckos with there desert coisions in Texas and Tuson. Not to mention these guys only get to be 6" tops while bent-toes can get to be alsomt 15" to 17" full grown. hope this helps and good luck with your geckos.

I've had luck with Leos and African Fat tails, but is you want someting thats easy to breed try pictus geckos or panter geckos, which ever name they go by now. Theres alot of geks out there, try getting gecko book or a local herp store, hey the best geckos are at reptile shows, find out when one is in your area.
