Temp Guns? Thoughts...

skyfire_1 Oct 18, 2009 03:24 PM

Looking to get a Temp Gun, and I know the prices range all over the place. But I am just looking for one that would give me a acurate reading, distance would be a plus. Just wondering what others in the hobby that uses Temp Guns, would reccomend to get.

I get mine from the local hardware store - they're in the welding dept. The ones with the infra-red light goes for $10-20 vs the reptiles version for $60 . Things like this, with a reptile logo on it are marketing gimmicks.

I love mine. It is an IR Thermometer. Just point and shoot. My husband even uses it to check temps in the winter around the house. Neat tool.

I like the model that is in the Link below. I don't want to list
the name out right in the body of this text
that might be against "TOS"
Using the link below you will see which infrared Temp Gun
I'm speaking about and use.
Its has a 12:1 D:S ratio. Distance to Spot ratio. This is the big
factor in which model to purchase.
Cheaply priced models usually are 1:1 D:S or 1:2 D:S
If you are 3 feet away you measuring a pretty large spot
creating a huge factor of inconsistency
